EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

SOCIAL MEDIA AND PUBLICITY INTERN

Interns will assist in creating and successfully disseminating digital content which will help expand our social media reach. Duties include:

  • Making engaging video shorts and GIFs for recent and upcoming titles
  • Styling and shooting product (usually the finished book) shots
  • Researching on a title-by-title basis the ideal online outlets where this in-house-developed content can be featured to maximum effect and gathering contact info for each
  • Reaching out to the gathered contacts with the created material and doing any necessary follow-up to get them to post what you made.

Candidates will ideally be comfortable with iMovie (or another video program) Adobe Creative Suite (specifically, Photoshop and Illustrator—InDesign is preferred), beginner/intermediate HTML and CSS, and WordPress. Knowledge and interest in what makes for engaging and successful social media posts on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Tumblr, as well as a firm familiarity of key and new online sites which would be interested in our books are all a requirement.

Candidates must possess strong organization, communication, and computer skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion. All interns should be able to work a minimum of 2-3 full days per week (MondayFriday, seven hours per day). This is an unpaid in-person internship but we do provide a monthly, unlimited metro card for those who meet the minimum weekly work requirements. Those eligible to receive school credit are strongly encouraged to apply, though the position is open to anyone.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND SALES INTERN
Interns will assist in finding new outlets for sales across our entire list of 500+ titles and creating and successfully disseminating digital content which will help expand our social media reach, which ideally leads to sales of our books. Tasks are similar to those of Social Media and Publicity intern along with:
  • Searching online for rare and specialized photo book dealers and non-bookstores (cool boutiques, galleries, etc) and crafting pitches of specific titles to get them to buy our books

Candidates will ideally be comfortable with iMovie (or another video program). A passion for the myriad ways people consume and interact with popular and media culture and where they meet to influence commerce is a must. Knowledge and interest in our list of books and what makes for engaging and successful social media posts on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Tumblr, as well as a firm familiarity of key and new print and online outlets which would be interested in our books are all a requirement.

Candidates must possess strong organization, communication, and computer skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion. DESIGN AND MEDIA INTERN

Intern will assist in creating and stylizing online content for powerHouse Books and The POWERHOUSE Arena, and maintaining and expanding powerHouse’s web presence. Duties include designing web banners, styling product shots, assisting in building new web pages, and coding newsletters and e-blasts, among others.

Candidates must possess strong organization, communication, and computer skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and see projects through to completion. Adobe Creative Suite skills are a requirement (specifically, Photoshop and Illustrator—InDesign is preferred).

In addition, candidates should be familiar with beginner/intermediate HTML and CSS, or at least express a firm desire to become familiar with these web languages. Experience with WordPress is preferred.

All intern candidates should be able to work a minimum of 3 full days per week (7 hours per day). This is an unpaid in-person internship. Those eligible to receive school credit are strongly encouraged to apply, though the position is open to anyone.
