This workshop helps you transform your photo project into a prototype “maquette” ready for submission to publishers, editors, and agents—or for a small print run or private edition! The workshop will give you a detailed overview of the process of designing a compelling and attractive visual book. For amateurs as well as those with some experience, this practical workshop will provide you with the basics of book designing.

The focus of this workshop is on creating a book based on size as well as page and image count, and gives you the tools and knowhow necessary to prepare your book for going on press. We will explain the basics of QuarkXPress, discuss design and sequencing, and review important elements of layout and cover design. The workshop will also cover aspects of prepress as it has an impact on design ideas and layout, as well as a brief introduction on book production processes.

The  secret to success in the new economy can be summed up in three simple words:
marketing, marketing, marketing. You may have a great project, you may have a mediocre project—but that doesn’t matter if no one has heard of you!

Sara Rosen, the mastermind behind powerHouse Books’ phenomenal success in the press, will teach you the basics of marketing, publicity, and promotions so that you can learn how to get noticed in an over-saturated industry. From crafting the perfect pitch and press release to putting together the premier package and following it up with the right touch, Miss Rosen will equip you with the tools necessary for getting your work the attention it deserves—and hopefully, sponsored. Because, after all, it’s all about who you know and how you work it.
