Design Intern

Nature of Work
Design/Production includes:
- Pre-production: scanning and retouching art, preparing dummies and other salesmaterials
- Assistance on design of books, catalogs, invites, announcements, advertisements, sales- materials
- Assisting on book design: layout and pre-production
- Updating and archiving digital art
Learning opportunity
- Inside view of book publishing and the opportunity to work closely with key personel in Design, Production, Sales, Marketing, Publicity, Promotions, Gallery and Retail Sales
- Interacting with authors and artists, suppliers, and media
Skills Required
- Basic Design skills
- Quark XPress, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
- Basic knowledge of web design would be great but not required

EDITORIAL INTERN
Position:
The Editorial Intern reports to the Managing Editor and is primarily responsible for: various editorial duties; Library of Congress relations; reviewing submissions; and database management.
Responsibilities Include:
• Proofreading and fact-checking.
• Checking powerHouse and distributed lines listings on major sales databases, including Amazon, disseminating new material, and coordinating maintenance.
• Managing submissions of publishing proposals
• Acting as a liaison to the Library of Congress to coordinate all Cataloging-in-Publication applications and copyrighting of powerHouse books.
• Disseminating and checking invoices.
• Assisting in preparing and working at in-house and offsite eventsincluding gallery openings, book signings, launch parties, and other awesome stuff.
• Administrative responsibilities as they occur.
Requirements Include:
Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Photoshop. Experience with QuarkXPress preferred. Familiarity with Mac required.
Effective, engaging communicator; excellent writing skills; multi-tasker; solid problem-solving skills; high energy; self-directed and resourceful; mission-passionate with an interest in art, photography, and book publishing.
Salary:
We offer a small stipend for long-term (6 mo+), full-time internships.

GALLERY & BOOKSTORE INTERN
Position:
The Gallery & Bookstore Intern reports to the Gallery Director and is primarily responsible for: preparing & promoting exhibitions and book signing events; bookstore management; gallery and event preparations, as well as assistance in organizing a summer workshop series.
Responsibilities Include:
Assist in preparing and working at in-house and offsite eventsincluding gallery openings, book signings, launch parties, and other special events. Maintaining contacts and workshop databases. Maintain inventory for office and bookstore.
Requirements Include:
Computer skills: Microsoft Office & Excel. Familiarity with Mac required.
Mission-passionate with an interest in art, photography, and book publishing.

Position:
The Publicity & Promotions Intern reports to the Publicity Director and is primarily responsible for: producing, disseminating, and archiving all marketing and promotional materials; database management; and gallery and event preparations.
Responsibilities Include:
• Creation and dissemination of all press and marketing materials including physical packages, electronic art, evites, and sales materials.
• Assist in preparing and working at in-house and offsite eventsincluding gallery openings, book signings, launch parties, and other special events.
• Track and archive media coverage; generate press and promotions reports. Maintain media, postage, events, and contacts databases.
Requirements Include:
Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and Acrobat. Familiarity with Mac required.
