| The Wall Street Journal discusses Hitler Moves East: A Graphic Chronicle, 1941-43. Check it out, The Pentagon Enters The Matrix.
Excerpt from the article: "For many years photographers in the art world have been exploring the matrix where documentary and fabrication merge, and the insidious role of the camera in that process. The book "Hitler Moves East: A Graphic Chronicle, 1941-43" by photographer David Levinthal (with text by the cartoonist Garry Trudeau) was an early example. Published in 1977 soon after both did graduate work at Yale, and reissued this year by Powerhouse Books, it purports to be a record of Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's invasion of Russia. On closer inspection, though, it's apparent that Mr. Levinthal is using toy Nazis and painted cotton balls for explosions. His sepia-toned black-and-white photographs mimic the blur of Robert Capa's famous shots from the beaches at D-Day and other action images of the period."
