The New York Times notes scholarly merit of Bodies of Subversion

The third edition of Margot Mifflin’s Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women and Tattoo is no longer an anomaly on the market. The New York Times Antiques Section talks with Mifflin about the greater impression tattooing has had in film and print today, compared to the original release of Mifflin’s book in 1997.

Amongst reality television shows like “Ink Master” and “Permanent Mark,” which according to Mifflin “seem to have raised people’s consciousness about the quality of tattooing you can get, and also the meaning,” Bodies of Subversion has gained scholarly notoriety.
